What it's like
YOYO Yard is a courtyard at 36 Cheltenham Place in North Laine, less than ten minutes' walk from Brighton station and the beach by the venue's own count. It combines the sauna garden with artist and ceramic studios and four wellness-stay apartments.
The sauna is a traditional Finnish one, a single large room with space for 20 and three bench levels so people can pick their own heat. The stove is described as emission-free and powered by renewable energy; the brand and fuel aren't stated, and there's no published temperature. The venue says it was built in the UK using Finnish techniques.
For cooling off there's a cold plunge in a former whisky barrel and a salt-filtered hot tub. Two showers sit alongside, one cold and one adjustable between hot and cold. Changing is gender-neutral, indoors and outdoors, in private cubicles.
Most sessions are an hour, starting on the hour. Lunchtime slots from 12 to 2pm are 30 minutes. Hosts are on site for questions, and water and tea come with the ticket. The programme around the plain communal sessions is long, with breathwork, Kundalini, gong baths, a run club and a sauna hat workshop.
Who it's for
People who want a sauna on a weekday lunch break or after work, with plenty of slots to choose from. Parents: there are sessions for parents with babies under one and for families with children aged 1 to 16. Trans, queer and non-binary people have a dedicated session on Mondays. Quiet-seekers can book a silent session.

First time here
- Book on the venue's Periode calendar. The venue highly recommends booking, and you sign a safety waiver, which you can do in advance if you book online.
- Walk-ins are allowed, with card payment on site. You'd still need to fill in the waiver via a QR code, and if the session is full or has started, the host will point you to the next slot.
- Find it at 36 Cheltenham Place, BN1 4AB. Parking isn't mentioned on the venue's pages.
- Bring swimwear (underwear isn't permitted as sauna wear), two towels, a water bottle, and flip-flops or sliders. The venue lends sitting towels free if you need one. A sauna hat is optional.
- Everyone must keep their bottom half covered in the sauna. Topless is allowed for all genders.
- Sessions begin on the hour. The hosts will explain how it works if it's your first time.
Good to know
- Peak and off-peak: off-peak is £12 and runs roughly 8am to 3pm on weekdays; peak is £14 and covers weekdays from 3pm to 9pm and all day Saturday and Sunday.
- The Saturday family session is listed on the booking calendar at 10am, while the FAQ says family sessions happen "every Saturday and Sunday from 10am - 11am". Check the calendar for the day you want.
- The minimum age in regular sessions isn't published. Children 1 to 16 are welcome in the family sessions.
- Memberships (£70 for 7 sessions, £50 for 15 lunch sessions, £150 for up to two hours a day) renew automatically and exclude special events. The unlimited membership can't be shared with friends.
