What it's like

Saunadelic is a single wood-fired sauna next to the Watersports Centre at Hove Lagoon, 330 Kingsway. The venue calls it Nordic-inspired and heats it with a Finnish-made Narvi stove and volcanic rocks. It seats nine at most, and shared sessions take up to eight.

For the cold side there's a freshwater plunge tank beside the sauna, plus outdoor showers for rinsing between rounds. The venue's own wording mentions "salty sea air", but it doesn't list a sea dip as part of the session. There's a seating area that looks over the lagoon, which is where you'd sit between rounds.

A shared session runs 55 minutes. Changing happens in the Watersports Centre's shared changing rooms, which the venue says have a toilet, lockers, a hairdryer and showers that run cold, then warm.

The timetable has a few set pieces: a quiet session on Tuesdays at 6:30pm ("SHHHH") with only the fire and the steam for noise, a short Friday morning slot, a 90 minute Full Moon guided ritual with a Sauna Master, and family sessions at weekends. If you book the whole space you can add a Sauna Master and leaf whisks.

Who it's for

Groups of up to nine who want the sauna to themselves. People who like a quiet session and don't want to talk to strangers. Parents with children aged 1 to 15, on the weekend family slots only.

First time here

  1. Book on the venue's Acuity page. The calendar usually opens 30 days ahead, and online booking closes an hour before the slot. If there's space inside that last hour, the FAQ says you can turn up and pay on arrival.
  2. Find the sauna next to Lagoon Watersports at Hove Lagoon, 330 Kingsway, BN3 4LX. The what3words address is much/teeth/after. There's on-street parking nearby and a car park near the Crossfit gym; bike racks are by the big beach cafe.
  3. Pack swimwear, two towels (one to sit on, one to dry), flip-flops or sea shoes, warm clothes for afterwards and a padlock for the lockers. Towels and footwear aren't provided.
  4. Don't bring your own body products or oils.
  5. The venue provides drinking water. Staff won't look after personal items, so use a locker.
  6. You can't swap people in and out of a booking.

Good to know

  • Age rules disagree. The FAQ says nobody under 16 can sauna because of insurance. The booking page sells Family Weekend sessions for one adult and up to two children aged 1 to 15, and the family session text says children can't use the cold tank.
  • Cancel more than 48 hours ahead to reschedule or get a full refund (the venue says refunds can take 5 to 10 days). Inside 48 hours you pay in full.
  • No memberships. The venue says it's a small fluctuating business, but there's an 8-session Hot Stuff Sauna Club pass for £96 on weekday sessions, with a ginger shot each visit, named holder only, to use within four months.
  • Opening hours aren't published, and the FAQ says they change between summer and winter. Check the booking calendar rather than assuming.
  • If you're pregnant, the venue's advice is to talk to a medical professional first.
  • NHS and Blue Light discount: email the venue from a registered address.
