What it's like
The sauna is in the gardens of Saltdean Lido, the Grade II* listed Art Deco building opened in 1938. It's run by The Wandering Wild Spa, a team that also runs saunas at festivals, and is wood-fired.
For cooling off there are cold plunge baths and a waterfall plunge bucket, with outdoor showers for rinsing beforehand and hot showers on site. The lido's pool is next door, but pool entry isn't included with a sauna ticket. The lido also does food, and the sauna page talks about "sauna and brunch".
Communal sessions are 30 or 55 minutes and 16+. Private hire takes 8 to 10 people. Communal session capacity, sauna temperature and the stove make aren't published.
The calendar goes beyond plain sauna: a Friday quiet session, Sunday Spa with a salt scrub and löyly pops, an Aufguss event called Slow Sauna Sunday, and a Samhain ritual on 30 October with birch whisking and tarot.
Who it's for
Walk-up regulars, who can save money on the monthly memberships. People who like a ritual or an Aufguss event now and then. Drivers, because the two car parks next to the lido are free.
