What it's like
Flame is a sauna and café under one roof at 61-63 High Street, Rottingdean, a short walk from the seafront. The café is open to anyone, with or without a sauna booking, and serves Skylark coffee, fresh bread and pastries, juices and wellness shots.
The sauna is Finnish-style, clad in cedar and heated electrically. The venue says it seats up to 10, though online slots are sold with eight places each. Temperature isn't published and neither is the make of heater.
Cold comes from two filtered-water ice baths, with two showers alongside. There are private changing rooms and somewhere to leave your things, but the venue doesn't say whether that means lockers.
Sessions are 30 or 60 minutes, and the price includes the cold plunge. Slots start every half hour. The sauna is a social one, so expect to share it with strangers rather than book it for yourself. Private hire is by email only and no price is published.
Who it's for
People who want a quick, inexpensive session with a proper cold plunge, and a decent coffee afterwards. It suits anyone who likes the idea of a 30 minute dip in and out rather than a long block. Not the place for a wood fire or a sea dip.

First time here
- Book on the venue's own site (flamesauna.co.uk/shop/sauna). The price only appears after you pick a date, a start time and a length.
- Choose 30 minutes (£10) or 60 minutes (£20). Both are per person and the price is the same on a weekday and a Saturday.
- Check the day. The sauna is closed Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday is 8am to 2pm, Thursday to Saturday 8am to evening, Sunday 8am to 1pm and 4pm to 7pm.

- Arrive about ten minutes early and bring swimwear (required), flip-flops or sliders, and a towel. Take off jewellery before you go in.
- The venue suggests starting with short rounds: 5 to 15 minutes in the sauna, cool down, a brief plunge, rest, and repeat two or three times.
Good to know
- Minimum age is 16, and under-18s need to be supervised by an adult.
- Walk-ins are welcome if a slot is free, according to the FAQ, but the terms say all bookings must be made in advance. Book if you want to be sure.
- Closing time on Thursday to Saturday is given as 7pm in the footer and 7:30pm on the About, Contact and Café pages.
- Towels disagree too. The sauna guide says a towel to sit on is provided; the FAQ says to bring your own. Bring one.
- The Ritual Pass costs £80 and gives £100 of credit, which covers ten 30 minute or five 60 minute sessions, or a mix.
