Half Day Spa Pass: 4 hours spa access, Mon

Prices checked on harbourhotels.co.uk. Edited by Alex Christou. How we check.

What it's like

Non-residents can use the sauna at HarSPA, but only on a booked spa pass. The Half Day Spa Pass gives four hours of access for £45 Monday to Thursday and £50 Friday to Sunday, subject to availability, and the venue says exclusion times may apply. Lockers, towels, a robe and slippers are included. Hotel guests who booked direct get complimentary access while checked in; guests who booked through a comparison site or booking engine pay £10.

The spa is below Harbour Hotel at 64 King's Road, in what the venue describes as old smugglers' tunnels, with exposed brickwork and vaulted ceilings. It has a sauna, steam room, Scandinavian hot tubs, a heated indoor pool, a hydrotherapy pool and a gym. The site doesn't describe the sauna's type, temperature or capacity, and doesn't mention a cold plunge or ice bath.

Spa hours are 7am to 8pm daily. An early session called Sunrise Swim & Dine covers sauna and steam from 7am to 8:30am and then breakfast upstairs, from £45 on weekdays.

Who it's for

Adults who want a few hours in a hotel spa without staying over, and who are happy with swim, steam and sauna rather than a cold plunge. The packages stretch from a pass with lunch (Swim, Sauna & Lunch, from £69) up to a full day with massage (from £190).

First time here

  1. Book through OneJourney, the venue's spa day booking page. The spa's phone number is 01273 916555.
  2. Find Harbour Hotel Brighton, 64 King's Road, BN1 1NA. It's a 10 to 15 minute walk from Brighton station.
  3. There is no on-site car park. The nearest public car parks are North Road (BN1 1YR), Churchill Square (BN1 2RU) and The Lanes (BN1 1ND).
  4. Lockers, towels, robe and slippers come with the pass. The swimwear rule isn't stated on the pages we read, so bring swimwear and check.
  5. The spa level isn't served by the hotel lift, so ask about access if you need step-free routes.

Good to know

  • Under-18s who aren't staying at the hotel can't use the spa. Resident under-18s may use the pool and relaxation area at set times only (8 to 9:30am and 5 to 6:30pm), never the sauna, steam room or hot tubs.
  • Memberships: £115 a month plus a £70 joining fee, three month minimum. The spa page headline says "from £110", so the two pages disagree by £5. The annual option is £1,265, and the joint monthly is £220 plus a £130 joining fee.
  • The venue's FAQ answer about whether treatments include spa access repeats the spa pass answer, so treatment-inclusive access is unclear.
  • Weekend spa day prices weren't visible on the date we checked.
  • The hotel itself recommends Beach Box Sauna Spa on Madeira Drive for wood-fired saunas with a sea dip, which is a separate venue.
