What it's like
Sauna Yard is an outdoor sauna and cold plunge in the back garden of a family home in West Hove. The venue keeps the address confidential and sends it with your booking confirmation, so the only location we can give is West Hove.
It is run by Barby De La Fuente-Ford, a qualified breathwork and life coach, and there's a breathwork studio next to the sauna. The sauna itself is small. Shared sessions take six people at most and the rituals take five. The venue doesn't say what heats it, what type of sauna it is or how hot it gets, and it doesn't describe the cold plunge beyond saying it exists.
A shared session is an hour with sauna, cold plunge and herbal tea. There's a fire pit for tea and snacks afterwards, and a shower on site. The breathwork is rhythmic and set to loud music, in case that sounds like your kind of thing or very much isn't. Phones stay in the studio.
Who it's for
People who like a small group and don't mind the garden setting. The Mini Retreat suits anyone who wants breathwork, sauna and tea by the fire in one two-hour block. Groups can hire the yard for three hours.

First time here
- Book on Acuity. It's booking only, with no walk-ins, and a late arrival loses the session.
- Complete the online health declaration at booking.
- Read the confirmation email for the address and the roads where street parking is free.
- Arrive ten minutes early. The side gate on the left opens ten minutes before the session. Don't use the yellow front door.
- Bring swimwear, two towels, flip-flops and a water bottle. Shower before your first round. You wear swimwear at all times in shared sessions and sit on a towel.
- There is no secure storage for valuables.
Good to know
- The Mini Retreat (£35) is 30 minutes of breathwork, an hour of sauna with cold plunge, then 30 minutes of stretch and tea by the fire. When we checked it had no bookable times.
- The monthly Special Ritual is also £35, guided by a sauna master. The Warrior Sauna with Kate is on 22 October.
- Private hire is £120 for an hour of sauna and cold plunge for up to six, or £220 for three hours of the yard for up to eight.
- Breathwork without sauna: group breathing is £15 for 30 minutes (up to four) and one-to-one is £40 for 45 minutes.
- Under-18s need a parent or guardian with them.
- Bookings are non-refundable. You can move one free up to 48 hours ahead, and cancelling 48 hours or more ahead gets a credit.
